Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a short trek also known as Poon Hill Trekking, covering large parts of the Annapurna circuit also. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking offers a wonderful opportunity to witness the beauty of the Annapurna region with a shorter trek. Due to its classical views of the high mountains bypassing the Annapurna has gained popularity over the years. Apart from its breathtaking views of high mountains, it also facilitates and provides a chance to explore the spectacular sights of Mount Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Machhapuchre (6,990 m), Nilgiri, Annapurna South (7,291m), Annapurna II (7,9300m), Annapurna III (7,555m), Himchuli (6,441m) and Tuckuche peak (6,920m). This trek also gives an insight into the lives of the rural community and chance to mix with them as well.
This trek leads us to the western part of Nepal following ancient Tibetan & Nepalese trade routes, going from the Himalayan foothills to beautiful Annapurna sanctuary. Starting our trek at Pokhara, we cross river beds and terraced hillsides, pass rhododendron clusters and oak forest. Ghandrung, the principal village of the Gurungs can also be observed. We go on to the deep narrow corridor of Mardi Gorge, entrance to the Sanctuary, a spectacular mountain amphitheater formed by the towering peaks of Annapurna South, Annapurna I and III, Gangapurna Glacier Dome and Machhapurchre. On return, we descend through the gorge and cross the Deorali Pass from where we can have the distant view of the Kali Gandaki valley. We can manage a rest day normally at Ghorepani with a short climb up to Poon Hill from where we can have the sweeping view of the entire western Himalaya, including the giant Dhaulagiri.
